Lager på Lager

A solo exhibition displaying mix-media sculptures situating my work in reference to legacies of Oskar Schlemmer’s theatre workshop. This formed part of the museum’s effort to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus.

These sculptures are experiments in thinking about costume and stylised bodies in exploded forms as scenography and props, constructed with a combination of found, industrial and handmade elements.

The exhibition Lager på lager takes us straight into the sketchbook of the textile designer Marie O’Connor. Here, playful and subtle experiments are proposed, all of which relate freely to the phrase ”layer on layer”. See what clothing as collage can be or imagine yourself as a ”layer” amongst the installations.

Marie O’Connor wants to create a sequence of events where, for example, a surface is built up or a shape is dissolved in several different layers. Her work juggles the line between the abstract and the pictorial. The flat two-dimensional may face the three-dimensional. Scales are changed and shifted. In the process, the relationship between body and garment or garment and fabric is always present.
