Sample

A textile and clothing collection from 2010 inspired by a V&A sample book of paper textile designs. These books serve as records of design history, reflecting taste in dress and interiors, and as an inventory of craft production.

I reinterpreted selected motifs through hand and digital drawing, translating the book’s format – page upon page upon page – by layering the motifs in multiple versions on cloth, through screen- and digital printing.

By revisiting historical designs through layered processes of making, this project creates a contemporary craft language where pattern becomes both memory and invention and offers new ways to think about ‘repeating patterns’. Repetition, sequencing and layering shift the fixed meanings of these objects, allowing motifs to drift across cloth and time.
